Our Story
At Roo Da Baker's, every dessert begins with something far more important than butter, sugar, or flour. It begins with family.
Growing up in a large family, some of my favorite memories were made around a table. Sundays were spent gathered at my grandmother's house, where food was never just something we ate. It was how we celebrated birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, holidays, and even ordinary afternoons. Food brought everyone together. It filled the room with laughter, stories, and the kind of memories that stay with you for a lifetime.
I was never formally trained as a chef or baker. Everything I know came from watching. I watched my grandmother. I watched my parents. I watched family members who poured their love into meals and passed down recipes that became part of our family's story. Somewhere along the way, those moments sparked a passion that never left.
As a kid, I was always drawn to the kitchen. Whether helping my dad clean fresh fish and crabs or watching my mom cook for four hungry children, food always seemed to be at the center of life's best moments. My first baking experiment was an EZ-Bake Oven cake made from a little imagination and a box of yellow cake mix. Looking back, it may not have been perfect, but it taught me something I've carried ever since. Creating food for others brings joy.
That joy only grew stronger as I got older. In my twenties, I began hosting gatherings and quickly realized that my favorite part was not the party itself. It was feeding people. Watching friends and family enjoy a meal, share a laugh, and forget their worries for a while became something I looked forward to every single time.
Roo Da Baker's was born from that same passion.
The name comes from my wife, whose nickname is "Roo." Adding "Da Baker" simply felt natural, and before long Roo Da Baker's became more than a name. It became a way to share our love for food, family, and hospitality with others.
Our desserts are inspired by Southern traditions and family recipes that remind me of home, from cream cheese pound cake to Southern tea cakes. While the flavors are familiar, the goal has never been to create ordinary desserts. Every RooBar, brownie, cookie, and cake is designed to offer something unique. Familiar flavors come together in unexpected ways that feel both comforting and memorable.
To me, hospitality means putting others before yourself. It means creating a space where people feel welcome, cared for, and at ease. That same philosophy guides every dessert we make. We believe ingredients matter. We believe details matter. Most importantly, we believe people matter.
If there is one thing I hope you experience when you try a Roo Da Baker's dessert, it is a feeling of home. Not necessarily a place, but a feeling. A familiar comfort. A sweet escape from the stress of everyday life. A reminder of the people, memories, and moments that make life meaningful.
People often ask when I decided to start a bakery. The truth is there was never a single moment. It was a journey of self-discovery over time. One day you realize that you will never arrive where you want to go if you never start walking. One step became two. Two became ten. Ten became an idea. The idea became a concept. The concept became a product. Before long, Roo Da Baker's was no longer something I dreamed about. It became something I was building.
I believe you should love what you do, regardless of compensation. There will never be a perfect opportunity. They do not exist. If you know what brings you joy and you have the ability to pursue it, why wait?
At the end of the day, our mission is simple.
To bring people together through the comfort of homemade desserts, the warmth of Southern hospitality, and the belief that food has a unique way of making people feel seen, welcomed, and loved.
From our family to yours, welcome to Roo Da Baker's.
